Travel Information During UCI Cycling World Championships 2023

From 3 August 2023 to 13 August 2023, the UCI World Cycling Championships take place in various locations across Scotland. The Championships are expected to have major impacts on the road and transport network.

The circuit means there will be road closures in and around Glasgow and one of the roads affected is Gordon Street which is right outside Glasgow Central Station. This is where people are often dropped off and where the taxi rank is located. During the Championships, the taxi rank will be relocated to Hope Street, this also has level access with a similar slope gradient to the Gordon Street entrance.

There is usually an interlink bus service between Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Queen Street Station. At times this will be affected by the road closures. There will still be a walking route, and passengers can also take a low-level train to Partick Station where they can change for Glasgow Queen Street, this may add time to their journeys.

In addition, events will also be taking place in the following locations:

  • The Gran Fondo Individual Time Trial is taking place on Monday 7 August in Dundee and Angus.
  • The Men Elite Road Race is taking place on Sunday 6 August 2023 starting in Edinburgh and finishing in Glasgow.
  • The Mountain Biking Cross Country event is taking place on 6 August and between 8 and 12 of August on the trails of Glentress Forest, just outside of Peebles in the Scottish Borders.
  • Fort William in the Highlands will host the downhill race between 3 and 5 August. The event is taking place in the Nevis Range.
  • The para-cycling events are taking place in Dumfries & Galloway between the 9 and 13 of August.
  • There are several cycling events taking place in Glasgow, Stirling and other council areas during the Championships. There will also be a road race taking place between Glasgow and Balloch on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August.

We are interested in how the Championships will impact accessibility for disabled people in the locations where the events are taking place. Please contact us to share your views, by emailing admin@disabilityequality.scot or calling 0141 370 0968
