Low Emission Zones (LEZ) – Blue Badges Scheme
Published on: 29th March 2025
In Scotland, the Blue Badge scheme helps disabled people park closer to places like shops, public buildings, and hospitals, making it easier for them to get around.
If you have a disability or health condition that impacts your mobility, you can apply for a Blue Badge. It can also be used in some places in Europe.
Local councils handle applications and renewals to make sure those who need it get the help and convenience it offers.
People who may be eligible for a Blue Badge include:
- People who have trouble walking long distances or need to use a wheelchair.
- People with severe mobility problems, whether they are drivers or passengers.
- People with certain disabilities or health conditions that make it hard to walk.
- Some people with non-visible disabilities, like autism or mental health conditions, find traveling difficult.
Local councils will review applications to decide who qualifies for a Blue Badge.
