Glasgow Queen Street Station Update – June 2020

Glasgow Queen Street frontage

Work on the redevelopment of Glasgow Queen Street station was paused the week commencing the 23 March 2020. This was in line with Scottish Government guidance on the closure of all non-essential construction sites in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

I am contacting you today to advise that the site has reopened this morning, Monday 1 June, for two weeks only to allow essential work to the public areas outside Queen Street. This is to ensure safe, physical distancing measures can be put in place for those accessing the station when we ease out of lockdown and passenger flow starts to increase.

From 1 until the 15 June, a small number of construction staff will be on site to undertake surfacing work at West George Street and Dundas Street. They will work behind the hoardings, wearing essential PPE (personnel protective equipment) and adhere to site safety measures at all times. The work has also been fully risk-assessed in line with public health.

Also, as per my last update in March, the former station entrance at Dundas Street remains closed, with access on this side of the station available via the new entrance on the corner of West George Street/Dundas Street.

Network Rail is working closely with Transport Scotland, ScotRail and Glasgow City Council to complete this work as quickly as possible to help keep the public safe while using Scotland’s Railway.

Please be advised, at the moment there is no confirmed date on when the remaining elements of the redevelopment work will resume at Queen Street.  Once we have confirmation of this, we will continue to keep you updated.
