ScotRail: Travelling on our Classic InterCity trains

You can now enjoy more seats and more services on some of our busiest routes across the country. Connecting Scotland’s seven cities and beyond, our fleet of Classic InterCity trains are helping us on our way to build the best railway Scotland has ever had.

Make the most of your journey

  • With complimentary WiFi, more seats, more room and more comfort, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your journey.
  • First-class carriages boast even more legroom, additional tables and free WiFi. You’ll also enjoy complimentary food and drinks, served to your seat.
  • With a wide range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks, our onboard catering trolley provides plenty of options to treat your taste buds.
  • These trains have space for bicycles too, so when you travel, your bike can tag along (make sure you reserve a bike space before your journey).

You might notice some features aren’t what you’re used to, and change is on its way. Over the coming months, Classic trains will be replaced by our Inter7City fleet, bringing even more comfort and style to our intercity services. Here’s some information to help you get familiar with the Classic InterCity and allow you to plan your journey.

Boarding and leaving the train

Our Classic InterCity trains have manually operated doors which are opened from the outside. Take a look at this short video to see how these doors work. If you think using these doors could cause you problems, please let us know by booking assistance here.
